Riverside, CA, Among Most Attractive Cities for U.S. Renters

Top 30 Cities for Renters in November 2023

The City of Riverside is now among the most desirable for renters, in the wake of increased home prices and elevated mortgage rates, according to a recent report.

RentCafe, a nationwide apartment-search website, measured the most popular cities in the country for renters in November and found that two California cities leaped into the top 30 regions, including Riverside and Sacramento.

The website analyzed rental-listing data in 150 of the largest cities by population in the country.

“Riverside, CA, comes next at #27,” the report said. “This vibrant city, part of Greater Los Angeles, climbed 12 spots since October as traffic for Riverside listings on RentCafe.com jumped 73% compared to last year. High renter interest also led to 38% fewer apartments available on our platform.”

Sacramento (#28) moved up seven spots on the list with an 81 percent increase in web traffic, the report showed. Renters favorited 15 percent more Sacramento apartments and saved 15 percent more personalized searches than one year ago, which also increase the city’s ranking.

The Top 10

Minneapolis was No. 1 on the list, according to RentCafe. Apartment listings in the Midwestern city attracted the highest website engagement, pushing the city up three spots from October. Atlanta climbed three positions to the second spot, while Detroit was next at No. 3.

Three cities in the West made the Top 10 list, led by Denver at No. 5, Colorado Springs, CO, at No. 7, and Portland, OR, at No. 9. Ten Western cities made the list with Peoria, AZ; Aurora, CO; Chandler, AZ; Tacoma, WA; and Albuquerque, NM, rounding out the list.
